Tonight the Boston Red Sox will be in Clevelend to begin a 4 game series with the Clevelend Indians. With the whole Barry Bonds about to break the homerun record it is very easy to over look the accomplishments and current struggles of other athletes. Thats why I have turned to this game as a perfect example of another great accomplishment. Taking the mound tonight for the first time this season since being declared free of cancer is 23 year old lefty Jon Lester. Lester was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma this past september. Lester was declared cancer free in December and he has been working very hard in the minors to return to the majors. This is a very impressive accomplishment and one that can trully inspire so many. The Red Sox say Lester will not be on a pitch count tonight in his first major league start this season. Lester was 3-4 in triple a this season with a 2.70 era. Jake Westbrook gets the start for Clevelen tonight. Westbrook is 1-5 with a 6.07 era so far this season. Im excited for this game tonight and I am excited for Lester. So along with all else thats going on in sports and in baseball with the homerun record for Bonds and the scandal Vick has himself in, its easy to over look great accomplishments like the one that Jon Lester has made.
