The Padres are in Houston tonight to take on the Astros who are fresh off of winning 2 of the 3 games against the Dodgers, and taking game one against the Padres lastnight. The Astros who have been really struggling are now on a 3 game winning streak. The Astros are having to look to other bats and sparks on the team with the loss of rookie sensation Hunter Pence who is on the 15 day DL with a wrist injury. The Astros have called up Jason Lane from Triple A Round Rock to play center field for the injured Pence. The Astros are sending Houston native Woody Williams to the hill tonight. Williams is 5-11 with a 5.03 era this year. The Padres are sending one of the best pitchers in the league this season to the mound tonight. Jake Peavey is 9-5 with a 2.47 era so far this season. Peavey who was pitching very well up to the all star break has been struggling a bit in his recent starts. Peavey hasnt won a game in a while and he will be coming out hungry to shut down the Astros and get the Padres a win. It should be an intresting match up tonight to see if the Astros can keep the winning streak going, and to see if Jake Peavey will give the Padres one of his much expected dominate starts.

Jake Peavy gets the start today for the Padres as they look to bounce back from dropping two in a row to the Phillies at home in San Diego. This will be Peavy’s second start since the all star game and he looks to help the Padres bounce back and split the series with the Phillies today. Peavy is 9-4 with a 2.30 era with 130 strike outs in 125 innings pitched. On the hill for the Phillies is J.D. Durbin. Durbin is 1-2 with a 9.0 era and 12 strike outs in 16 innings pitched this year. Should be a great afternoon game in sunny San Diego.
