F Minus

September 2, 2007 § Leave a comment

An F minus is the grade I give the Longhorns on lastnights sketchy win over Arkansas State. I love the Longhorns and I bleed organge like the majority of people here in Austin Texas. Lastnight however was rather dissapointing and kind of scary. The Longhorns are fortunate that they played this poorly against Arkansas State and not a better opponent or we would be feeling like the Wolverines today wondering where to go next. The Longhorns had penalties and gave up some big drives by the Arkansas State offense. If their kicker hadnt missed a couple of kicks this game could have been an upset. With TCU coming to Austin on Saturday the Longhorns will need to really kick start themselves this week and get it together. TCU rolled over Baylor lastnight easily 27-0. If the Longhorns dont step it up the Horned Frogs will roll over us. I have faith that lastnight was a fluke and it was just a bad effort put on by the Longhorns. They have so much talent and potential to go all the way this season. The running game needs to be able to put the ball in the endzone because going on all 4 downs on your opponents 3 and not getting in is not good at all. So come on Longhorns lets get it together and play the football you are capable and expected to play.

Upset Of The Century!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow who would have thought this would happen today on game one in the big house. The two time national formally division 1AA Appalachian State Mountaineers would upset the number 5 in the nation Michigan Wolverines. I remember seeing Appalachian State play on TV last season on their way to their second national championship and I was very impressed with this team and with the performance of their freshman QB Armanti Edwards. Edwards now a sophmore didnt throw an incomplete pass as the teams went to the locker room with a 28-17 Appalachian State lead. Michigan fought back and took the lead late in the forth but Appalachian State never ever gave up and kicked a field goal to go ahead with 20 seconds. A huge pass to Manningham brought Michigan to a 37 yard field goal attempt that was blocked by Lynch and Appalachian State could celebrate as they upset the Wolverines at the big house 34-32. It has to be one of the biggest upsets in history. Congrats to Appalachian State on fighting and never giving up and winning a game against a very good Michigan team and winning at Michigan in one of the toughest places to play.

Big Day Tomorrow

August 31, 2007 § Leave a comment

The majority of College football teams will be kicking off their season tomorrow and their are going to be some very good match ups. Of course most of us college football fans will be watch the Virginia Tech game tomorrow at noon and rooting for the Hokie nation as they get together for their first game since the tragic shooting at their University. Also the Texas Longhorns who are already a little banged up before the season has even started welcome Arkansas State here to Austin to kick off what is hoped to be a great season for the Horns. I believe we have a great shot this year with an experienced Colt McCoy and a good set of recievers and a deffense that I beleive will step up this year and be dominent. Mondays games will be good as we have Texas Tech at SMU and the Bowden bowl Monday night as Florida State will take the trip to Clemson to take on the Tigers. Lots of great games this weekend.

Twins at Angels todays match up of the day…

August 12, 2007 § Leave a comment

The Twins are taking on the Angels today in game 3 of the 3 game weekend series. The Twins have dropped the first 2 games to the Angels 10-1 and 4-3. The Twins look to turn things around today against the red hot Angels who are playing very solid baseball. On the mound today for the Twins is Boof Bonser. Bonser is 5-8 with a 4.63 era and 112 strike outs so far this season with 134 innings pitched. The Twins will need to get their bats going against the Angels today to give support to Bonser. Taking the mound for the home team Angels is the young right hander Jared Weaver. Weaver who went to college at Long Beach State is 7-5 this season with a 3.94 era and 75 strike outs this season in 107.1 innings pitched. Weaver has recieved a no decision in his last 2 outtings so look for him to turn things around and get a win. Todays game should be exciting in sunny California.

Rough Day for Lincecum..

August 11, 2007 § Leave a comment

I missed most of the Giants game today cause my team was playing and when I got home I was shocked to see that Lincecum had such a rough outting. Tim Lincecum is amazing and he has some wicked stuff that has just left hitters confused and marveling over his pitching. Most of the teams that have faced Lincecum this year since his May 6th major league debut have said how good he really is. They say he does have some pure good stuff. The Pirates however hit back to back homers off the young rookie right hander after he had shut them out for the first 3 innings. Lincecum pitched 6 innings giving up 9 hits and 6 earned runs and he struck out 8 as positive note. Everyone has their good and bad days and today wasnt one of Lincecums best outtings even though he only walked 1 and struck out 8. Lincecum will bounce back though and get back to dominance he has displayed so far since his call up.

A’s at Tigers todays match up of the day…

August 10, 2007 § Leave a comment

The Tigers who have been not exactly playing their best baseball as of late welcome the A’s to Detroit tonight for a 4 game series. The Tigers dropped 2 of 3 games to Tampa Bay and are looking to rebound by playing better baseball. Jordan Tata will take the mound for the Tigers tonight. Tata is 1-1 his one win being against these same A’s on July 30th. Tata’s era is 3.75 and this Texas native will look to give the Tigers a solid performance. As for the A’s they are fresh off a day of rest and from winning 2 of 3 games against the Rangers. Taking the mound tonight for the A’s is Joe Blanton. Blanton is 9-8 with a 3.71 era. Blanton gave up 5 earned runs against the Tigers on July 30th. So we have a rematch of the same starting pitchers in this one. The Tigers hope to get the same result as they look to get back on the winning track that they have been on for most of the season. Should be a good game tonight. I look for the Tigers bats to get going in this game and for them to put up some runs on the A’s. Should be a good game tonight in Detroit.
