The Giants and Dodgers will face off tonight in game 2 of this 3 game series tonight in Los Angeles. Dodgers ace Brad Penny gave up 3 runs lastnight to the Giants and thats all it would take. The Giants handed Penny just his second loss of the season as the Giants held on to win 3-1. Tonight the story isnt just about Barry Bonds, atleast it isnt the story for me. As always I look forward to seeing the Giants rookie right hander Tim Lincecum pitch. Tonight Lincecum will be looking for win 7 on the season and win 7 of his career. I have done a write up on Lincecum before and he is going to really be something special. His teamates have already given him the nickname “Franchise”. Lincecum has a very good fastball that he can throw in the high 90’s consistently through the game and his recently perfected change up adds to his very good curveball that he throws in the high 80’s makes a combination that keeps batters guessing. Lincecum is 6-2 with a 3.90 era with 100 strike outs since his Major League debut on May 6 this season. As for the Dodgers they will be sending Mark Hendrickson to the mound to face the Giants. Hendrickson is 4-5 with a 4.58 era with 72 strike outs this year. Now will Bonds hit a homerun tonight against the Dodgers and tie Hank or maybe even break the record tonight? Who knows. But what I do know is that its going to be a good game to watch and Lincecum will add more strike outs to his statistics. A couple other facts about the starting pitchers tonight is that Tim Lincecum is the second fastest Giant to get career strike out 100. Lincecum has reached 100 strike outs in just 92.1 innings pitched since his Major League debut on May 6th this year. Also Lincecum went to the University of Washington where he became the Pac-10 record holder in strike outs and Hendrickson went to Washington State, and both pitchers are Washinton natives. It all sets up to be a great game tonight and you can see it on ESPN2 at 9 central.

The Tigers who are on a bit of a skid right now losing their last 5 out of 7 games, will take on the Angels tonight for game 3 of the 3 game series. The Angels won lastnight 10-3 and Tigers are left frustrated with their struggling play as of late. Tonight Jeremy Bonderman will get the start for the Tigers and he hopes to turn things back around and get the Tigers back in the right direction. Bonderman has been great this season he is 10-2 with a 3.69 era. Taking the mound for the Angels today will be Dustin Moseley. Moseley the Texas native is 4-1 with a 4.06 era this season. Tonights game should be a battle and a good one to watch for sure.

The Padres are in Houston tonight to take on the Astros who are fresh off of winning 2 of the 3 games against the Dodgers, and taking game one against the Padres lastnight. The Astros who have been really struggling are now on a 3 game winning streak. The Astros are having to look to other bats and sparks on the team with the loss of rookie sensation Hunter Pence who is on the 15 day DL with a wrist injury. The Astros have called up Jason Lane from Triple A Round Rock to play center field for the injured Pence. The Astros are sending Houston native Woody Williams to the hill tonight. Williams is 5-11 with a 5.03 era this year. The Padres are sending one of the best pitchers in the league this season to the mound tonight. Jake Peavey is 9-5 with a 2.47 era so far this season. Peavey who was pitching very well up to the all star break has been struggling a bit in his recent starts. Peavey hasnt won a game in a while and he will be coming out hungry to shut down the Astros and get the Padres a win. It should be an intresting match up tonight to see if the Astros can keep the winning streak going, and to see if Jake Peavey will give the Padres one of his much expected dominate starts.

Craig Biggio announced today that he will retire at the end of this season. Biggio has said all along that he had a plan and when the time was right he would let everyone know. I respect that from a player and I think it is the right way to handle it. Biggio had goals this season and he has accomplished some very big things in his career. Most people dont realize that Biggio actually was a catcher before he became a second baseman. Becoming a second baseman was perhaps what has really made his career what it is today. Biggio’s great career may not have even lasted this long had he remained a catcher. I think a lot of us saw that Biggio’s retirement would be coming this year. Its gonna be hard to watch Biggio play in his final game at the end of the season. I remember watching Biggio as I have grown up and I have always respected him. As everyone always says “Biggio plays baseball the way it should be played” and that is the truth. Biggio said that he will probobly keep his uniform on all day the last game of his career because “once you take off the uniform off its off”. Biggio is a great baseball player who has accomplished a lot in his career and most recently got his 3000th hit. Craig also does so much off the field with working with “the sunshine kids”. The Sunshine Kids are dedicated to children with cancer, and Biggio works very closely with them and they mean so much to him. In all this is gonna be sad day for so many Astros fans and baseball fans in general. I wish Biggio the best in the rest of the season and we all know the hall of fame is where Biggio will end up.

Tonight the Chicago Cubs will be in St. Louis to take on the Cardinals. The Chicago Cubs who have been playing great baseball lately have dropped their last 2 games and are going to be looking to rebound tonight against the Cardinals. As for St. Louis they split thier series with the Braves and are coming into this game on a 1 game winning streak. With The Cardinals losing Chris Carpenter for the season they will look to the rest of their rotation to step up and help give the team the best chance to win. Starting on the hill tonight for the Cardinals is Kip Wells. Wells a former player at Baylor University is 4-12 this season with a 5.75 era. The Houston native will have a lot to handle with the hot Cubs coming to town looking to get back on the winning edge. Taking the hill for the Cubs tonight is Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano has really turned his season around and is 12-7 with a 3.69 era. Tonight should be a very exiting game and I beleive this 3 game series will produce some good ball games between these 2 teams.

Yesterday I wrote a little about Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox. Ive been thinking about it a lot and watching Lester pitch lastnight for the first time in the majors this season it was truly amazing. Lester kept his composure together and pitched a very solid game. Lester gave up just 2 runs and 5 hits and struck out 6 in 6.0 innings pitched. Letster gave up a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 3rd to Sizemore but then later struck out Sizemore in a clutch situation. Again as I said in yesterdays post about this ball game the Jon Lester story is nothing short of amazing and it is very inspiring to everyone. It really puts a lot in perspective when you think of life and when you think of your own personal struggles. This is the kind of story everyone can really look at for inspiration and hope.
